What will be the future of remote work? | S2 Consultoria

Qual será o futuro do trabalho remoto?
Browse topics

Remote working used to be rarely applied, but it has gained momentum during the pandemic, as a matter of necessity. Today, more than an adjustment action, it has become a working style that wins over professionals, but not always companies.

In this post, you'll find out what the prospects are for the so-called home office and why it can be very advantageous. Have a good read!

What are the prospects for remote working?

When it comes to work, the current scenario is broad, but there are trends that point to a return to the "previous model". This is the case with large corporations, which are returning to face-to-face or hybrid work.

The most recent was Amazon, which as of January 2 has made it compulsory for employees to return to the office. Other companies include Google, Apple and Disney. In Brazil, it's not much different.

According to a May 2024 survey by internship company Start Carreiras, for Veja magazineThe number of remote vacancies is decreasing. At the time, they corresponded to 15.6%, a figure that has decreased compared to October 2023, when it was 22.8%. As for face-to-face places, they went from 37.3% to 56.5%.

Going against the trend is the defense of remote work. Already in 2019, according to a report in Galileo magazineThe Work Habits survey, carried out by the companies Ipsos and Alelo, found that, out of 1,518 interviewees, 97% thought the mode was ideal for working. The reasons included comfort, quality of life and productivity.

So much so that it became a talking point during the pandemic, when many people experimented with the model and found that they could get the job done without having to face the office routine and its time-consuming commute. In fact, some professionals, especially the self-employed, have even adopted the digital nomad lifestyle, traveling while they work.

However, this reality does not affect all companies and employees. In fact, the future of work is being discussed more widely, especially with the 4×3 workday, which is a trend for the future, predicted by companies such as Gartner. In Brazil, it became an issue with the PEC, which calls for an end to the 6×1 scale and is still under discussion.

Why is remote working advantageous?

With the current scenario, no one yet knows what direction remote work and working hours will take in the country.

However, it is true that the models can be analyzed so that companies that haven't yet applied them can learn more about the advantages. In the case of the home office, check out some of them!

Mental health

A mental health has been highly valued in recent years, especially after several cases of Burnout. Thus, professionals point out that the home office makes them more productive and relaxed, as they can work without the wear and tear of commuting.

Even those who have freedom of schedule can get more out of it by working when it's most convenient.

Lower costs

When employees don't visit the company, even if it offers a home office allowance, it's possible to save a lot on costs such as transport vouchers, energy, food, etc. It is therefore advisable for each company to do the math to determine how much it could save with the remote model.

More freedom

If the company can stipulate the work, without demanding a rigid workload, employees feel freer to carry out their duties. Of course, this will depend on the job and the position held, but when it is possible, the person can make choices and become more productive.

For example, if you want to start work earlier and leave earlier, you can find free time to devote to projects and leisure, which helps to balance your professional and personal life.

Higher productivity

The question of productivity is not a rule and will vary from company to company. However, remote working can be a factor that facilitates increased productivity, as the person works more focused and rested, avoiding burnout.

Remote working was adopted out of necessity, but has become highly valued. However, today there is a trend towards back to face-to-face. However, it may not be the best choice. After all, it favors turnover, dissatisfaction and the exhaustion of those who have to travel back and forth wasting time; which damages mental health and also leads to sick leave. It is therefore worth considering the home office, or the hybrid model, as an option to balance the needs of the company and its employees.
